  7. Thank you for trying Macromedia's DECK II DEMO. This demo is fully functional except you cannot save your files. This document contains information on the following topics:

  16. Macromedia suggests you configure DECK II 2.5 in the following way for your specific Macintosh (using the Memory and Storage preference on the File menu):

  18. Macintosh 660av, 6 tracks
  19. Macintosh 840av, 8 tracks
  20. Power Macintosh 6100, 8 tracks
  21. Power Macintosh 7100, 10 tracks
  22. Power Macintosh 8100, 12 tracks (16-24 tracks with array)
  23. Power Macintosh 7500, 12 tracks (16-24 tracks with array)
  24. Power Macintosh 8500, 12 tracks (16-32 tracks with array)
  25. Power Macintosh 9500, 12/16 tracks (16-32 tracks with array)
  26. PowerBook 190 and 500-family, 2 tracks
  27. PowerBook 5000-family, 4 tracks + effects
  28. Other Power Macintoshes, start at 8 tracks and adjust upward until the disk is too slow

  30. Your performance may vary.  Increased Disk Buffer sizes (Memory and Storage preference on the File menu) may result in better performance.

  33. TIPS ON INSTALLING AND RUNNING DECK II
  34.  
  35. Remember:  You will always achieve better performance if you record to a hard disk that does NOT contain your active System folder.

  37. Special Note:  If you are planning to run DECK II and METRO on a Mac with 8 megabytes of RAM or less, you will need to DECREASE DECK II╒s preferred RAM partition from 5000 to 3500 after installation.  Do this by selecting the DECK II in the Finder and choosing Get Info on the File menu.

  39. Special Note:  DECK II now has a new installation procedure.  All installation is automatic, so NO Extras diskette is required, and NO DECK Resources file is needed.  'Validation-style' copy protection has been removed.

  41. Special Note: DECK II¬ 2.5 now requires version 3.1 of the Sound Manager (included in the installer).

  43. Special Note for Power Macintosh, 660AV and 840AV users:
  44. This version runs on Power Macintoshes using System 7.1.2,  System 7.5, and System 7.5.1.  For best results however, Macromedia recommends running DECK II under System 7.5.1 with version 4.3.1 of the SCSI Manager.  System 7.5 users should remove the SCSI Manager 4.3 extension from their systems as it is known to cause problems, such as clicks and pops, with DECK and other disk intensive applications.

Power Macintosh, 840AV, or 660AV users should be certain that their hard drives are formatted with drivers that fully support asynchronous drive I/O.  Macromedia recommends using the driver from CharisMac Engineering in their Anubis formatting utility or the driver from Transoft in SCSIDirector.  Symptoms of not having async-compatible drivers include slow user interface response, decreased track count, and "Disk too slow" messages.

Power Macintosh users should know that the "Analog Input Level" sub-menu is controlling an input pre-amp (you are increasing the level of the signal) whereas on other machines where this item is available it is controlling an input attenuator (you are decreasing the level of the signal). This is why Power Macintosh users have had to set this item to a low number for best results and other users have had to set this item to a high number for best results.  This is due to hardware differences between the various platforms.
